Almost 40 years ago, I walked out of college clutching a freshly awarded BTEC Diploma in Art and Design. I was 19 years old and had a place waiting for me on a textile degree course that autumn. Then life happened. That summer my parents moved from London to a sleepy Victorian seaside town in South Wales.
