Frequently Asked Questions
Textiles Reimagined is based in Cardiff, South Wales, UK, with workshops and projects delivered in community, educational, and collaborative settings.
Textiles Reimagined is a practice focused on extending the life of clothing through visible repair, mending, and reuse. It explores how damaged or discarded textiles can be transformed through stitch, patching, and creative intervention, shifting perception away from waste and towards value.
The work includes visible mending, garment repair, textile reworking, and small-scale workshops. I ue techniques such as sashiko stitching, patching, and hand embroidery to extend the life of garments and fabrics.
Some workshops are suitable for beginners, while others require basic sewing knowledge. Where relevant, this will always be made clear beforehand. Simple hand stitches are often used, but support is provided for those completely new to sewing.
This depends on the child’s ability and experience with sewing. If they already have a basic understanding of stitches such as running stitch, they may be able to take part. However, sessions are not suitable for very young children or unaccompanied minors.
Yes, selected garments can be repaired or reworked depending on condition and suitability. Each piece is assessed individually, and the approach is guided by the existing material, damage, and intended use.
Visible mending is used to highlight repair rather than hide it. It reframes damage as part of a garment’s history and encourages a more considered relationship with clothing, where care and repair are made visible rather than concealed.
I work primarily with reclaimed, repurposed, and surplus textiles. This includes worn garments, fabric offcuts, natural fibres or pre-existing materials. The focus is on working with what already exists rather than introducing new production materials.
Yes. Repair can significantly extend the usable life of garments by reinforcing worn areas and preventing further damage. It also encourages continued use and emotional attachment, which reduces premature disposal.
Yes. Workshops focus on simple hand stitching techniques for repair and reuse. They are designed to introduce people to mending practices and encourage confidence in working with existing clothing rather than replacing it.
