Introduction to Sashiko Stitch and Visible Mending. Full day workshop Sat 17th October 2026

This full day workshop will introduce participants to Japanese inspired sashiko stitching and visible mending. Designed for complete beginners as well as anyone with sewing experience. You will create a small textile piece while learning the techniques that can be used to repair and extend the life of clothing.

The workshop will be held at Craft in the Bay, Cardiff from 10.30 - 16.30 All materials will be provided.

Over two enjoyable hours, you’ll be gently guided through simple, easy-to-follow techniques inspired by sashiko stitching. Using reclaimed fabric scraps, you’ll learn how to transform rips, holes, and stains into unique design features, giving your garments a new story rather than throwing them away. This is a friendly, social space where you can meet like-minded people who care about sustainability, creativity, and making things last. All materials are provided, so you can simply come along and enjoy the process, but you’re very welcome to bring a piece of clothing you’d love to mend. Whether you’re new to sewing or just want to build confidence, you’ll leave with practical skills, creative inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for the clothes you already own.

Sewing Machine Hire

Whether you're repairing a well-loved garment, altering a piece to fit just right, or bringing a creative idea to life, our workshop is here to support you.

We offer sewing machine hire at £7 per hour, providing access to machines in a relaxed and supportive environment. This service is ideal for those who already have basic sewing skills but don’t have access to their own machine, as well as for anyone looking to build confidence through hands-on practice. Machines are set up and ready to use when you arrive, with threads and bobbins provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own materials and tools if you prefer. Take the time, space, and resources you need to extend the life of your clothes — or create something entirely new.
